Kall Morris Inc (KMI) is a space solutions company that captures and relocates unprepared objects in orbit to protect critical space assets and continue building the future. We are a startup based in Marquette, Michigan, and are pleased to be expanding our technical team to develop spacecraft systems that will be launched, tested, and operated in orbit. We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to lead the management and integration of mechanical and electrical hardware systems along with software controllers, for spacecraft systems that will be launched into orbit. Your role in this mission will include:

  • Developing requirements and verification plans for ongoing and future engineering projects.

  • Planning system architecture and interfaces with integration and robustness in mind.

  • Leading FMEA processes and reviews to support risk analysis and mitigation.

  • Preparation and presentation of development reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.

  • Collaborating with coworkers from multiple disciplines to ensure cohesive understanding of systems and requirements.

  • Collaborating with coworkers to both learn and teach new skills.

  • Working on cutting-edge research for space technologies.

  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.

  • Providing support with drafting government and commercial proposal documents.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A KMI Systems Engineer should be highly organized and able to keep track of the relevant projects at hand. This includes follow-through on execution of individual tasks as well as maintaining a big-picture perspective to support consideration of both external and internal requirements, methods of verification, and documentation. An ideal candidate should have experience with research and development; electrical, mechanical, and software interface design; integration of systems and subsystems; testing plans and procedures; requirements engineering; risk management; and ongoing reporting of results.

  • Expertise with the interfacing and integration of mechanical, electrical, and software systems and subsystems.

  • Experience with requirements development, verification, validation, and documentation.

  • Experience in conducting risk analysis and preparing mitigation plans.

  • Knowledge of relevant aerospace standards and certifications.

  • Comfort with documentation of work processes, project accomplishments, and methods or procedures used to attain those milestones.

  • High-level technical writing skills and ability to summarize complex concepts and results both for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience with instrumentation equipment and data collection is a plus.

  • Skilled in conducting independent research to develop skills and techniques.

Requirements

  • Ability to legally work in the United States and the state of Michigan.

  • Ability to legally work on ITAR/EAR restricted technologies within the United States.

  • Available to relocate to Marquette, Michigan within 3 months of starting employment. Hybrid on-site may be allowable for this role.

  • Available for regular, full-time employment Monday through Friday.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise AND either 7+ years of industry experience OR a terminal degree/certification plus 5+ years of industry experience.
